I am always fascinated by the stories of Moses and the Israelites. Here are people who witnessed the Mighty Hand of God firsthand on so many occasions and, yet, still turned from Him on a regular basis doubting His Sovereignty. Years ago I was chastising the Israelites in my time with the Lord, saying, "God, how is it possible that these people witnessed Your glory so clearly and didn't trust You?" The Lord spoke in my spirit and gently said, "How are you any different than the Israelites?"
How true. I have seen the amazing power of God many times. I have seen Him move in my life and the lives of people around me. I have seen Him comfort me during the most difficult times. I have seen the miraculous. I have seen many things, and yet, trusting Him can be a challenge at times. But, my lack of trust and faith never changes that Jesus Christ is on the throne, and He is moving on His people's behalf!
Moses was leading the Israelites away from a life of bondage and slavery. And at the moment that it seemed they were facing the impossible, God showed up!
While the Israelites were fleeing on foot, the Egyptians were rushing upon them with 600 choice chariots. It would appear they were doomed. "And Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today . . . the Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.'" (Exodus 14:13-14) And Moses stood before the Red Sea and held up his staff, and the Almighty Sovereign God parted the sea so the Israelites could walk across on dry ground. When the Lord's people were on the other side of danger, the seas swallowed up their enemies.
Now, we may never have witnessed anything quite as dramatic as waters parting before us in the way the Israelites did; however, the truth of the story is unchanged. When you are facing the enemy, when you are fearful that there is no way out, when you don't know how you will get through your next trial, God tells you to stand still and watch the Hand of God move! He will fight for you. He will take you safely to the other side of your impossible. He will bring you through.
And although we are never told that we won't have trials, storms, and tribulation in this life, we can be assured that God walks us through every single moment if we put our trust in Him.
Stand still and watch Him do the miraculous in your life!
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.
For I am the Lord your God,
The Holy One of Israel, your Savior . . .
Since you were precious in My sight,
You have been honored,
And I have loved you."
