Travels from Omaha, Nebraska

by Beverly Brown, Set Me Free Ministries Prayer Coordinator

I love the seasons, because each season has its own unique beauty. This time of year I enjoy the sights, sounds, and smell of spring–the bright green color of grass as it wakes from its slumber, the sound of the rain coming down accompanied by lightning and thunder, and the smell of lilacs in full bloom.

It all reminds me of a hymn we used to sing back in the day when we still sang the old hymns in church.

For the beauty of the earth,

For the beauty of the skies,

For the love which from our birth

       Over and around us lies,

Lord of all to thee we raise

This our hymn of grateful praise.

For the beauty of each hour

Of the day of the night,

Hill and vale, and tree and flower,

Sun and moon, and stars of light,

Lord of all to thee we raise

This our hymn of grateful praise.

I am not going to quote each of the stanzas, but there are six of them in all. Each reminds us to give thanks to God for His incredible gifts that are so freely given. Gifts that we can so easily overlook if we don't take the time to just stop and quite literally smell the roses–or the lilacs in this case!

No matter what struggles you are going through in your particular season of life, our prayer for you is that you will take the time to see in God's glorious creation all of the many blessings that surround you each and every day. He is worthy of our praise, and so, as Psalm 98:4 exhorts us, "Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth; Break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises, Sing to the Lord…"
