Run Your Ministry Well

Run Your Ministry Well

by Stephanie Olson, Co-founder Set Me Free Ministries

I was having an interesting conversation with someone the other day. We were discussing our lives as Christians and what God expects of each and every one of us. This person was commenting on how it was interesting that some people are called to go into the ministry, and others are able to live “normal” lives, work a “normal” job, and live in a “normal” family.

My comment was, “Is that true?” I mean, yes, some people are absolutely called to the ministry in the traditional sense of the word. Some are called to preach from the pulpit, some are called to run ministries in their communities, and some are called to pastor groups of young adults. Even so, aren’t we all called to the ministry?

2 Corinthians tells us we are Christ’s ambassadors. Jesus tells us in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” And He also tells us in Mark 16:15 to,“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

These are not just words to a few select people in Christ. No, these are words to everyone who is in Christ. We are all called to share the Good News of the Gospel. We are all called to spread the Truth. We are all called to teach people the need for repentance. We are all called to lead people to Jesus Christ. But, clearly, we are not all called to do this from a pulpit.

If we have been walking with Him, we are right where He wants us. Whether it is in our homes, the jobs we are in, our neighborhoods … we are called to be witnesses for Christ. We are called to be His ambassadors. We don’t need a pulpit or an official tax-exempt status. You already have a ministry. Wherever God has placed you in life, that is your ministry.

We have a job to do. We were placed here on this earth to worship and serve Him. We are here to grow His Kingdom. You have a very important job. You have the most important ministry on the face of the earth! Run it well!
