Nothing Is Too Big For God

Nothing Is Too Big For God

How many of you are going through a storm in your life? One in which you think there seems to be no way out.

Perhaps one of your children has turned his back on Christ, and you question the likelihood of him ever surrendering his life to Jesus. Perhaps you have lost your job, and it seems there is no opportunity available to you whatsoever. Perhaps you have been standing on a promise of God's that now seems almost impossible to be fulfilled. There are so many times that it seems the solution to a problem is absolutely impossible. But let me assure you, nothing is too big for God!

We have to understand who it is we serve! We serve Jesus! We often have this image of Jesus as this gentle man—His blue eyes are sparkling, and His blonde hair is perfectly coiffed. Perhaps He is holding a lamb as He walks through green pastures. Yes, our Jesus is gentle when He needs to be, but our Jesus is so much more than that.

Jesus! Jesus is the Creator of the Universe, the King of all kings, the Word that became flesh, He is omniscient (or all-knowing), He is omnipresent (or everywhere), and He is omnipotent (having infinite power). Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last. He is the One who is and who was and who is to come. Jesus is the Almighty, Holy, and Sovereign God! That’s who we’re dealing with. The Jesus who calmed the violent tempest by simply saying, “Peace, be still,” who Created the Universe, who took on all of your sins and mine, who conquered the grave, and who walks on water is the same Jesus who is with you in times of trouble. It is that same Jesus who says to you, “Take courage. It is I, Jesus.” The very same. Jesus is powerful!

In 2 Kings 6: 8-17, we learn of the story of Elisha and the Syrian army. The king of Syria was making war against Israel. At the same time, Elisha, the prophet of God, had been revealing (through divine revelation) the Syrian king's plans to the king of Israel. The king of Syria decided it was time to capture Elisha and eliminate his problems. The servant of Elisha was terrified. When they awoke the following day, a huge Syrian army was surrounding their city. Much to his servant's astonishment, Elisha had no fear.

And we see why in verses 16-17. “‘Don’t be afraid!’ Elisha told him. ‘For there are more on our side than on theirs!’ Then Elisha prayed, ‘O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!’ The LORD opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.”

You see, when we have God on our side, absolutely nothing can overcome us. When we have God on our side, we have already won the battle. When we can truly trust in the power of Jesus Christ, we understand that nothing is too big for God!
