Jesus Is Still On The Throne

By now, most of you have heard of the horrific tragedy in Aurora, Colorado. Excited moviegoers had packed into a theater for a midnight viewing of the new Batman movieThe Dark Knight Rises. Anticipating the fun and excitement of a superhero story, they were met with terror and calamity. An armed man threw tear gas into the unsuspecting crowd and then proceeded to unleash gunfire into the theater killing 12 and wounding 58.
What do we do with such tragedy, and how do we understand abhorrent events such as this? First of all, we pray. We pray for the victims still living and for the families of all those affected. Next, we must turn to God, understanding that we have an enemy in this world who wants to see us destroyed. John 10:10 says, "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy." Satan's intent is simply that–to steal, to kill, and to destroy. But the scripture doesn't end there! It goes on to say, "I [Jesus] have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."
Matthew 28:18 says this, "And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, 'All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.'" As hard as it can be to remember at times, Jesus Christ is on the throne!
Jesus first came to Earth as a baby born to parents of humble means. But make no mistake, when Jesus returns to earth and puts His Holy feet on this earth again, He will be returning as a King and a Judge. Jesus is coming to judge the living and the dead (2 Tim. 4:1), to right all wrongs (Rev. 20:11-15), to wipe away all tears (Rev. 21:4), and to make a new heaven and a new earth (Rev. 21:1)!
"Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Phil. 2:9-11)
Let's remember that despite the horror of this world, Jesus Christ is still on His throne! Hang on, beloved; He is coming soon!
