Easter is over and I am sitting in my living room trying to resist the freezer full of yummy frosted cut-out bunny cookies, I am avoiding the last "cookies and cream" chocolate bunnies, and I am feeling challenged and convicted about continuing to celebrate Jesus every day just as if it were Easter Sunday! Yesterday I was chatting with my hubby about the purpose of life, and the question popped into my mind: What do I want to be remembered for?
I could fill this page with a long list, but in the end I landed on the following. I want to be remembered as an authentic, loving, and humble servant who is on fire for, and infected, with the love of Jesus. You see, when I am living out that sentence, all my roles as mom, wife, grandma, friend, neighbor, volunteer, and the list goes on and on, fall right into place.
I love the quote from Erma Bombeck, "When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would have not a single bit of talent left and could say, I used everything You gave me."
So what do you want to be remembered for? Is your life centered on and around Jesus? Have you made the decision to choose Jesus as Lord of your life?
The Bible tells us in Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". You see, if you don't have Jesus on your team, it is like playing a game that is missing a key player!
I hope reading this encourages you to make Jesus the King of your life. Seek Him first every day. I believe God has appointed places for us to spread the love of Jesus. We are His hands and feet here on earth, but we first must surrender to Jesus. If we are not seeking Jesus, and the plan He has for our lives, we will miss so many opportunities to be a lighthouse for Him!
God loves us more than we can imagine. I am sometimes overwhelmed with how much I love and care about my family. I am so lucky to be a wife, a mom of six wonderful kids (three of whom are married to awesome spouses that I think of as my own kids), and two beautiful grandsons (one whom was just born!).
Maybe those roles of wife, mom, and grandma are why this verse from 1 John 4:9 rivets my soul! It says, "This is how God showed His love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him." That is how much God loves us! HE GAVE US JESUS.
I pray this week you will become infected with Jesus. Allow Him to invade your life and invite Him to lead your days. Surrender to Jesus, rely on Him for everything you need, and seek Him first every day.
Join me in celebrating the gift of Jesus today and everyday. The Easter goodies will soon be gone, and may be already, but the love of our Lord never fades. Run to Him and jump into the arms of Jesus. He is waiting.
