He Is On Your Side
by Stephanie Olson, Co-founder Set Me Free Ministries
While my kids were in school one morning, instead of working from home, I decided to go to my office—er, I mean, a coffee shop—to get some much needed work done. I was working on my computer while my iPod played some worship music in my ear. Work and worship is an important combination at times. I was listening to the song You Are on My Side by Bethany Dillon. The song was recently sung by our very own Sabrina Wright at our Lincoln, Nebraska, conference.
I was struck by the lyrics of this anointed song:
You sit at the table with the wounded and the poor
You laugh and share stories with the thief and the whore
When You could just be silent and leave us here to die
Still, You sent Your Son for us
You are on our side
We have to understand that Jesus did not sacrifice His life for the arrived. He did not sacrifice His life for the perfect. He died for the wounded, the poor, the weak, the hungry, the needy, and the broken.
We may not have the strength to make it through the day, but Jesus has the strength to take us through the day. We may not have the strength to stop that addiction, but Jesus has the strength to help us out of the pit. With Him there, is nothing we can’t do.
It is through His mercy, His grace, and His love that we find our courage, energy, and fortitude. In Habakkuk 3:19 in the Amplified Bible, we see that “The LORD God is my strength, my personal bravery, and my invincible army. He makes my feet like hinds’ feet and will make me to walk, not to stand still in terror, but to walk and make spiritual progress upon my high places of trouble, suffering, or responsibility.”
Jesus is our personal bravery. How wonderful is that? What should we fear with Jesus as our personal bravery? So, if you are not perfect, if you are wounded, if you need a Savior, run to Jesus. He is on your side.
