A Weekend To Remember
by Kristin Fuhs, Set Me Free Ministries Board Member
The weekend of October 9, 2010, went down in the record books for a lot of reasons. One in particular that hit the news in a big way was 10/10/10 … a day in history date-wise that will never happen again. In my record book, the day 10/9/10 is also a day of significance! A day when God hand-picked nearly 200 women and men to attend Set Me Free Ministries' Renewed, Restored,Released to experience “Freedom in Forgiveness” and face to face moments with God. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., life-changing moments were taking place at Horizons Community Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. Let me highlight some of the moments that inspired, stretched, and changed my heart and some of the promises that encourage, renew, and guide me each day!
God took us on a journey this past Saturday. Here are a few reminders of the steps He took us on.
• When we are offended, what do we do? Revenge
cannot be on the menu! If we are consumed with
anger, frustration, and hate, we are not consumed
with love. What is God’s plan? LOVE and
• Resentment is like drinking poison, hoping the other
person will die.
• Forgiveness is a choice.
• Fact: We are all damaged. We must admit our pain.
Cry out to God and say “ NEED YOU!”
• Satan can’t stand in the presence of the Lord. Let me
say that one again! Satan can’t stand in the presence of
After hearing challenges like that, it became very apparent that heart surgery “Jesus style” was in order for all of us. It is time to stop being victims. It is time to forgive those who have wronged you.
Participants were given the opportunity to write cardboard testimonies at one point in the day. A cardboard testimony is a way to vulnerably share a part of you that needs changing and surrendering it to God. For example, one side of the board might say “Wavering Faith” the other side “Grounded in God.” Or maybe the cardboard was a bit more front and center: “Desperate Drunk” and “Sober Servant.” We all have cardboard testimonies! Maybe some of you reading this blog need to settle your account! The wonderful and amazing thing about our great God is that His arms are always open … waiting for us to run to Him.
Do you have something you want to be forgiven for? Take it to the Lord. Do you need to forgive someone else? Take it to the Lord. Do you need to surrender an addiction? Are you lonely, abused, disobedient, or lost? Take it to the Lord. Run into His arms. He is waiting for you. It is time to settle your account, my friends. Breathe deep, and for the first time, let go!
It is such a privilege to attend and be a part of one of the Set Me Free Ministries conferences. By the end of the day, I have truly experienced most every emotion! The day is filled with laughter, tears, sudden shock, genuine love, amazing peace, and the list goes on. When 3 p.m. hits, I am a changed person. I have been stretched and pulled in many directions. I have had face-to-face moments with God that will never be forgotten, and I have spent the day with new girlfriends whom I hold dear in my heart. I may not know their names or even understand their stories, but I know that we have all walked with God together. We shared precious moments together, and we have become sisters in Christ.
Set Me Free Ministries is committed to helping people live victoriously. The ministry is passionate about helping you to experience true joy–the joy only Christ has to offer. I found a definition of joy prior to the conference that I now keep on my desk. “JOY–(noun) the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying; the deep down understanding that God is in control.” On Saturday, we ended the day on that definition. The joy that Jesus can provide is like no other joy you have experienced. I hope you join Set Me Free Ministries as we seek to live joy-filled, Jesus-filled lives!
In closing, I want to leave you with these promises that we were blessed with on Saturday. Breathe deep as you read them and rest assured that our God loves you!
Good News! Jesus is a gift that was given to redeem us. You are greatly loved. Jesus accepts you as you are, and when you repent, you are a new creation. The old is gone forever! Jesus promises: “I will NEVER leave or forsake you.” Jesus collects every tear that you have cried in a bottle! He understands. Surrender to Him and be renewed! Jesus, the Creator of the Universe, laid down His life for you (John 15:13). We are saved by grace. Accept Jesus and accept the gift of salvation!
Thanks for sharing the day with me one more time. If you missed the conference, I hope this will be a filling station for you. If we shared the day together, know that we are praying for you and your JOY journey. Have a blessed day. Spend time with our great God, and if we as a ministry can walk along side of you in any way, please let us know!
Praying for you,
